The Change Management Model
Trade and international travel is growing and Border Agencies need to meet these challenges with a different approach. Today change is a necessity stemming from the changing environment in which they operate.
Change is often brought by the introduction of different projects that bring new technology and updated processes. Depressing statistics however show that on average only a meagre 30-40 per cent of these actually deliver what the stakeholders anticipated and very often while exceeding budget. The reasons for this vary but are very often related to the people aspects of change or project management.
Organisational change requires individual change and the outcomes of an organisational change or a new project implementation will be the collective result of individual change. In short: if people do not change nor will the organisation. It is perfectly natural to resist change since it is going to have an impact on daily life and new processes require new training and new thinking. This is why the people side of change is crucial for success and this is why we are applying structured Change Management in our projects.
Managing change is very much about communication and interaction between different stakeholders, the employers that will be affected and those actually engaged in the project work. Good Change Management starts early, if possible as early as at the initiation of the project and continues after the hand-over.
